The UIU Classic Mode

Based on the original Universal Imaging Utility (known as version 4.x or the UIU Classic), the UIU Classic Mode helps you create ONE hardware independent PC image that can be easily deployed to any laptop or desktop, regardless of manufacturer or model.

The UIU Classic Mode accommodates all OS deployment solutions, including those that do not utilize Microsoft's Windows PE, by storing the entire UIU Driver Database within the OS image. The UIU Classic Mode is an updated version of the original UIU 4.x — known in recent years as the UIU Classic — for those users that do not use a WinPE-based deployment solution.

Why should you UIU?

The UIU remains the only software application able to completely automate the deployment of a hardware independent OS image to any model laptop or desktop PC. If you are creating and maintaining several images for your organization, or spending hours manually managing drivers, true hardware independent imaging with the UIU will save you countless hours and headaches.

The UIU Classic Mode Features

  • Use the UIU Classic Mode with any imaging solution, particularly those that are not based in Windows PE. (i.e. Linux-based solutions like Clonezilla and FOG.)

  • Assists in the creation of a completely hardware independent PC image that incorporates the UIU Driver Database.

  • The UIU Driver Database currently includes over 62,000 plug-n-play IDs, which are continuously updated by Big Bang, ensuring complete driver coverage for both older and brand new hardware.

  • Assists admins in creating a new or importing an existing Sysprep .xml file.

  • Includes the UIU Discovery Tool which allows users to quickly determine hardware compatibility for all Windows operating systems.

  • OS compatibility includes Windows 7 through Windows 10 (Windows XP upon request).

The UIU Classic Mode Process

It's quick and easy to use the UIU to help you create a completely hardware independent image.


  1. Set up your base machine including OS, updates and organization-wide software.

  2. Capture an image of your base machine, prior to running the UIU. Save this pre-Sysprep image for when the time comes to update your image.

  3. Update and run the UIU on your base machine.

  4. When the UIU is complete, shut down your base machine and capture your master image with your preferred imaging solution.

  5. Deploy your master image to any make and model PC!
