What is the UIU?

The Universal Imaging Utility (UIU) remains the only software application that works with any Windows OS deployment solution, including Ghost, MECM/SCCM, MDT, DISM, Altiris etc., to automatically deliver every applicable driver to any PC, regardless of manufacturer or model, for true hardware independent hard drive imaging.

  • Integrate with any WindowsPE-based imaging solution (Not using a WinPE solution?)

  • The UIU Driver Database currently includes over 62,000 plug-n-play IDs, which are continuously updated by Big Bang, ensuring complete driver coverage for both older and brand new hardware.

  • Additional development for Symantec Ghost including options for integration with the Ghost Console, GhostCast Server, Ghost Client and Ghost Offline Deploy.

  • Includes a user interface for Microsoft’s command-line imaging application, DISM. Options include Basic Capture, Basic Deploy and Advanced Deploy.

  • Utilities to inject boot-critical UIU drivers into a pre-built WinPE image and to simplify the creation of a custom WinPE image with UIU drivers.

  • Compatibility for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows Thin PC.

How does the UIU work?

Used in conjunction with your existing deployment solution, the UIU completely automates driver management by accessing Big Bang's fully-maintained, comprehensive driver database. The UIU currently includes over 62,000 Plug-and-Play IDs, which are continuously updated and tested by Big Bang.

UIU Process

It's quick and easy to setup and run the UIU with your preferred imaging solution. 


  1. Launch the UIU 5 and follow the instructions to establish a network-accessible UIU Repository.

  2. Select the wizard to customize the UIU for your imaging solution.

  3. After completing the UIU integration with your imaging solution, perform OS deployments as you normally would.

  4. During deployment, the UIU will determine the hardware of the target PC, then the UIU will retrieve and stage the necessary drivers for each individual target PC.

  5. Run UIU Updates regularly and never have to touch another driver ever again!
